These are about 100 MOD/XM/S3M/IT files from the 1990s Demoscene culture chosen according to Webmaster's tastes from his collection. You can browse and download them, or just click on a file and open it with ZIP extractor and then your player. Bigger digits in the table are Kilobytes so you can judge transfer speed. Filenames mainly contain authors' names, songs' titles, release years and original DOS filenames.
If you don't know what this type of music is, you can read Wikipedia on Trackers, Demoscene and so on. For here, let's just shortly say it's a kind of "open source music" made by many people in the world using home computers. It's free (no charge) and there are many sources of it (see links at the bottom of the page). It's not very much like regular showbiz, as MOD composers tend to write music for fun as well as evaluate works of others. Since emerging of the Demoscene in late 1980s, huge amounts of home-computer music have been created. A regular PC usually doesn't give a top-quality performance of sound production, but appreciated are talents and creativity first which are usually independent of having or not some professional equipment. True masterpieces are fairly usual within the MOD scene and if you like... hmm... sort of synth-pop music, you can check some here (not all 100, though =)). Here are collected some way back favourites for many, made before coming of the 21st century, including really oldschool chip-tunes, which are indeed good for their energy no matter how noisy the samples are.
We recommend playing these files in ModPlug Player which is one of the recognized best in its kind. You can get free ModPlug software as well as other information at ModPlug.com. Popular Winamp also plays them though, but may have issues with some particular effects and really old files (if you find MOD or STM files are played separately 2 channels left × 2 channels right, decrease stereo separation for these types in Nullsoft Module Decoder in Input Plug-ins Preferences).
